Today is set apart to honor the civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
He had much wisdom to share, but his overall message was unconditional love.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that.”
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality. Tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
We are writing on the same thread this morning. I also incorporated the “darkness cannot drive out darkness” quote into my blog post. What an inspiration Dr. Martin Luther King Jr is to all of us, to center our thoughts on love, not hate.
Thank you also for sharing those monument photos and giving us that visual perspective of honor.
The MLK memorial in Washington DC is large and quite striking. I like that they had many notes by him etched in marble.
Valerie – I think Martin Luther King would be very disappointed at the continuing racial problems we still have in this country. If more people would heed his advice to know that “Hate doesn’t drive out Hate – Love does that.” So glad we still have a day to honor his memory and all he stands for!
I agree.
