On a recent walk on Carleton College campus my friend and I came upon the unique smell of manure, and then we heard the sounds of bleating so we turned and walked towards the sound. We found several goats in a fenced-in area on campus. There was a sign that explained the goat’s presence. It said “Eco Friendly control of invasive brush and unwanted weeds.” It was a fun surprise on a routine walk – and the goats seem happy and are doing a good job!
Dale and I stumbled upon these goats on a bike ride. They were very eager eaters and they made me chuckle . I was surprised I hadn’t heard about this new project before seeing it. What a great idea!
Kristen: I almost called you to find our more information. I couldn’t find anything on Carleton’s website.
But thought the sign explained it all. 😉
These goats come from rural Faribault. I know the Langeslags, Jake and Amanda, who own this business. They are great young couple.
These goats have also been grazing at River Bend Nature Center for the purpose of eradicating invasive buckthorn. This is the second or third summer at River Bend.
I have see the signs at Riverbend Nature Center. It’s a great idea! It’s great when these small businesses do well, and it’s especially nice when it’s local folk.
