My favorite parenting verse is Isaiah 40:11:
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.
My mother had a collection of angel figurines. I kept one from her collection (pictured above) but I didn’t want the others. An idea came to me to give them away at her funeral luncheon, held in the church basement.
I had not seen that done before (12 years ago now) so I asked a few others if it was a good idea to give away the angels at her funeral, and I got a lot of encouragement to do so. Since that time, I have seen collections given away at funerals.
I displayed her angel collection on two tables and made a sign inviting guests to take an angel home with them in remembrance of my mom. All the angels were taken that day, and it was comforting.
Excellent idea ! I will put that in “My Story “
to Kara, Maia, Maren .
Yes – it might be a good tip for the girls! HA!
The verse from Isaiah gives one such a warm feeling. What a beautiful thing to do at your mom’s funeral. I’m sure a lot of
people took them as a wonderful remembrance of your mom!
I love the image the verse has to offer, and the hope.
Oh, Valerie, that was such a wonderful idea, to gift those angels to others in loving memory of your mother. I went to a funeral where the family gave away their mom’s cookbooks.
Thank you.
I hope you got a cook book…
What a wonderful Mother’s Day post!! We all need that reminder!
My friend has many, many angels and I will encourage her daughter to share them at her funeral. She gave me one that I have on my dresser along with my statue of the Blessed Virgin.
I hope your Mother’s Day was amazing!!💞
Thank you Mary Jane.
I’m glad you already have an angel from your friend to enjoy.
I like that storie about the Angel and ypur Mom.
Thanks Barb!
