Thursday morning the snow started to taper off mid-morning, and stopped before noon. The official snowfall total for Northfield was 15.1 inches over this three-day storm. That’s a lot of snow, but not a record. Now, this morning, it’s cold out there…below zero temperatures!
Thankfully we have a snow blower. With Gary behind the snow blower and me using shovels to clear out the front porch and short walkway, we make a good team, but he does the brunt of the work shoveling out.
We are also responsible to clear the public sidewalk along the east side of our house…Gary uses the snowblower for that.
It wasn’t too cold when we went out to clear snow. It went quickly. Then we wait until the snowplow comes along to plow the street and pushes a huge mound of snow back into our driveway. Gary goes out once again to plow it out…and the sidewalk entrance too. And so it goes.
The birdfeeders suctioned to our windows were full of snow. I saw a chickadee pecking through the snow to find seeds. I “spooned” out the snow and added fresh seed in the feeders.
The first day of the snowstorm we were on country roads driving home. It had been snowing for awhile and the wind was blowing across the fields making it low visibility and white-out conditions over the fields. At that time, it was just beginning to snow…I can only imagine what it is like out on open roads with much snow and wind.
It looks so innocent and serene looking out our windows.
Ah…Minnesota winters…not for the faint of heart.
Yikes! That’s a lot of snow, but it is beautiful! Glad we are in Iowa now – we missed it all, but it has been super cold for a couple days. Stay safe and warm.
Wow, you missed it all? That’s great…let me know if you want some sent to you! ha
Not for the faint of heart is right. For probably the first time after a major winter storm, I didn’t help Randy with the shoveling. The process took him two hours. Glad you two are dug out.
I’m glad you had a break from shoveling out.
I usually don’t mind it…I did go for a short walk in the streets yesterday, after shoveling.
Great pictures and commentary! We in Apple Valley won the prize for the most snow in the metro area…20”. It is beautiful from the inside. One advantage of apartment living is that someone else snowblows and puts down the salt.
Yes, Apple Valley got the most snow in the area.
It’s good you have someone else shoveling and blowing out the snow!
Okay, so it was 78 and sunny here in Dunedin the last few days. Do love the big storms though, so beautiful and life kind of pauses a bit and lets you settle (that is after all the shoveling is done). Enjoy.
78*! O my.
I do like the big storms when we can be safe, even when out in them…
And life does pause a bit, and it is a sweet time…
Beautiful it is! I liked your description of shoveling and snow blowing and then snow blowing and shoveling again after the streets were plowed. Today felt like spring! It won’t be long now!
Sorry to say, but I’m pretty sure we have a couple more months of winter.
Snow, it is a blessing … and a curse! It is so beautiful, but it can wreak such havoc. It is such a gorgeous white … until it is not, with accumulated dirt, gravel, and bit of garbage. It is what it is … winter in Minnesota! We chose it, we love it! But we reserve the right to complain about it!
You are right…we reserve the right to complain about our Minnesota weather.
I liked the way you described snow…gorgeous white…until it is not!
